DeKalb airport receives nearly $1.4M

(CHICAGO TRIBUNE) — The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded the DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport a grant of nearly $1.4 million.

U.S. Rep. Bill Foster announced the grant Thursday. The suburban Chicago Democrat says the funding will create jobs.

Airport manager Tom Cleveland says the northern Illinois facility will use the money to buy private land in a runway protection zone.

A protection zone is a large area at the end of a runway and airports need them to control nearby land use.
