Today We Remember
Today we give pause to remember and mourn the loss of those who died during the attack on our country ten years ago. But we also take this time to remember the extraordinary people who bravely and selflessly put their lives in great peril to help their fellow man. In the midst of the chaos and horror that day, our best qualities as a people were drawn out: empathy, charity, unity, and bravery. September 11th, 2001 marked this nation indelibly. It exposed us to some of the worst of human nature, our response demonstrated some of the best. Our resilience and compassion in the wake of the tragedy must not be easily forgotten. In an era of growing partisanship and divisiveness it stands as a moment of unity rarely equaled in our history and a call for politicians to live up to that spirit. As Americans we join in remembering the tragedy; as Americans we join in honoring those who died. And as we have been changed by 9/11, let us use this anniversary to recall how we can come together as a nation and realize that our differences pale in comparison to what we share in common. |
