Bill Foster Calls on Judy Biggert to Sell TransCanada Stock

Naperville, IL – Amid growing concern about the conflicts members of Congress may have between their official duties and their personal portfolios, Bill Foster called on Congresswoman Judy Biggert to sell her stock in TransCanada. In December, Crain’s Chicago Business reported that Congresswoman Biggert owned an interest in TransCanada, the company responsible for the pending Keystone XL pipeline. After her repeated public statements in support of the pipeline – statements that did not mention her financial interests in TransCanada – Bill Foster has called on Congresswoman Biggert to take action to end her conflict of interest immediately.

"It is a conflict of interest, and a breach of public trust, for members of Congress to be buying, selling, or even holding individual stocks that are being influenced by congressional actions," said Bill Foster. “Congresswoman Biggert should divest herself of the TransCanada stock she owns – or at minimum recuse herself from votes and public statements about stocks that she has a financial interest in."
