What an amazing night!
Last night we achieved a resounding victory, with 58.1% of the vote – in a race that all of the pundits (and our own polling!) said was statistically tied.
We could not have done this without the help and determination of so many dedicated supporters. I’m so deeply grateful for the tremendous amount of help and support we received. I appreciate it more than you know, and will be forever indebted. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Here are a few excerpts from my speech at the victory celebration last night:
"This election was an important decision point. For our district and for our country, the debate on Obamacare is over. The debate about whether our financial system should return to a world of unlimited leverage and zero regulation — that debate is over. And for our district and for our country, the debate as to whether all Americans should be asked to share of the sacrifice for the difficult cures to the real problems our nation faces, that debate is over, too.
"Our nation faces tough problems – more than a decade in the making. And there is no doubt that compromise will be required to resolve these problems”.
"But there should also be no doubt, that when our elected representatives come to the table to strike that final compromise, that hard-working middle class families, that small manufacturing businesses like the one my brother and I started so many years ago, and seniors who depend on the generosity of all Americans for their retirement security – that each of these will get a much better deal, if they have Bill Foster and our fellow Democrats representing them at the negotiating table”.
Thank you so much for your support. I’ll never forget the trust you put in me and will work hard to make you proud.
